James Osborn's Audi A6 Allroad - hella4 Feature
Rare doesn’t begin to describe how scarce this particular car is. To many car enthusiasts, let alone our readers, many just simply don’t know what they are looking at here. Heck even we had no idea what we were looking at until James Osborn, the proud owner of this amazing vehicle, told us the history of his car. To the everyday car guy, this is simply another Audi A6 allroad that had a color change. Reality of it is that this particular Audi A6 allroad is genuinely something special. In 2002, Audi sponsored the German Ski Federation during the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. To commemorate the occasion as well as the ski team, Audi created 10 total Audi A6 allroad in Sprint Blue. Some of these vehicles were put to use during the games while others were put on display at the local Audi dealership in Salt Lake City. Regardless, this car is VERY rare.
Before we go further into the amazing work of this car, let’s talk a little more about James Osborn. James had always been into cars. However he never had just been interested in one type of car. His first was a 63 Nova SS. Soon after, he traded his SS for a Datsun 510 before transitioning over to a Porsche 914. As you can see, James just loves cars regardless of where they originated from. His Porsche 914 was really what got James caught on European cars. In 2000, James bought his first MKIV 1.8T Jetta, from that point forward; it was truly a downward spiral according to him.
What really turned James onto the Audi allroad was the fact that he “stole” his wife’s A6 Avant and bagged the wagon. In spite of this, James really wanted an allroad simply because of the amazing stance it had with the fender flairs. As his search began, he stumbled across the Sprint Blue Allroad. James jumped on this opportunity immediately and went to work as soon as he got the car home. He did the necessary maintenance simply to pass smog and then he swapped all the suspension components as well as other parts over from the A6 Avant. Before all the suspension components were installed, James had to make sure they had been improved and worked better than before.
Once the air ride was sorted, next was getting a proper set of wheels for the car. James asked his buddy Adam to find something suitable for his newly grounded allroad. What Adam came across truly sums up the word rare just as the Sprint Blue allroad did. Adam had found a set of Hamann PG1’s in 19” in Texas. Hamann PG1’s were originally produced by OZ Racing but what differentiates the 19” PG1s from the other sizes is that they are 2 piece in construction instead of the usual 3.
After sorting out the suspension and wheels, James and his buddy Adam really got down and sorted out the lines and placement of all the necessary hardware to keep the air ride running properly while looking clean and classy. Adam fabricated an epic hardwood floor with bamboo flooring. “This combination of flooring and hardlines proved to be such a success that people started requesting us to do setups for them. Thus began #becausebags.”
What James envisions next for the allroad will truly take it to a level beyond anything on the road. James looks forward to swapping in RS6 Avant interior pieces, converting the tiptronic automatic transmission to a 6-speed manual one and lastly but not least, some more performance bits.
Wow, if we at Hella4 have to say so ourselves. James truly has built a car that is beyond anything we have ever seen before. With what he has planned in the future, I think it will be quite a while before we see another build as epic as this.
